The Chainsmokers’ recent hit ‘Closer’ ft. Halsey is still dominating charts, hearts and radio waves in the US and elsewhere, but The Chainsmokers are in no mood to slow down. This time, they have teamed up with Phoebe Ryan for ‘All We Know’, for a new release, which they will be officially releasing today (30th September, 2016).
The new single continues on their future bass kick. They open the track with soft piano and vocals from Phoebe Ryan and Drew Taggart about the struggles of a relationship, but sticking it out no matter what. The song features some soft acoustic guitar and once again features vocals from The Chainsmokers’ own Drew Taggart, and duets with Phoebe Ryan for the verses.
‘Closer’ talks about a couple who are re-igniting their spark after a 4 year absence, obviously happy to be reunited and letting go of whatever stupid reason broke them apart and simultaneously forgetting how painful the break was. The song is all about physical attraction, and it’s a celebration of that, in a way, but it’s also a warning. In ‘All We Know’, the lyrics talk about the harsher truth that faces the main characters of ‘Closer’ when morning arrives. It talks about what happens after the relationship infatuation stage; when the relationship gets less sparkly and more realistic, and memories rush back.
“It’s about the hardships of relationships but never giving up on your ride or die,” tweeted The Chainsmokers when teasing the single.
Then the track drops into another infectious hook with sugary synths and punchy drums with heavy reverb as the pair realize their relationship is not stable, but they are ready to take the hit and ride together cooing “this is all we know.”
‘All We Know’ is clearly more mellow and laid back than its predecessor ‘Closer’, making it less engaging for their fans, but ‘hey’, the song’s a welcome addition to The Chainsmokers’ insanely succesful year. This is ‘all we know’.
