CHARLIE PUTH ON HIS GRAMMY NOMINATION FOR BEST SINGLE

When all the high-flying car chases were done in Furious 7, and Brian O’Connor parts ways upon reaching a fork on a mountain road, that’s when most of us met Charlie Puth for the first time: It’s been a long day without you my friend….one cannot help, but be moved to tears, in memory of Paul Walker and the melodious voice of Charlie Puth in the background.

American singer-songwriter and record producer, Charlie Puth’s name might be not so very familiar among music listeners; but the same cannot be said about his music. The pop singer rose to prominence in 2015, as co-writer and was featured on the Wiz Khalifa hit “See You Again”, which has garnered so far a little more than a billion and four hundred million views on YouTube. The hit ruled the Billboard Hot 100 for twelve non-consecutive weeks. The Paul Walker tribute ballad, and performed with rapper Wiz Khalifa has since been nominated at the upcoming Grammys for Song of the Year.

Speaking to Forbes, Charlie Puth talks about his Grammy nominations and heady success after ‘See You Again’.

Because of the success of “See You Again”, do you feel any pressure on yourself to come up with your own global number one, twelve week, once in a generation hit single?

Those don’t happen every day. I mean, the way I look at it is that was an amazing accomplishment, let’s do something different now. Not, “Let’s one up that”, because if I put myself in that mindset… It’s almost a negative thinking space. You’re almost setting yourself up. I don’t want to force something, like I have to do another piano ballad with a rapper. It’s special by itself. Then do something completely different, like “We Don’t Talk Anymore”, which is a Brazilian soulful vibe with Selena Gomez. It couldn’t be more different.

Can you even put into words what the last twelve months of your life has been?

Where was I? I guess where is a good place to start with me and ask where was I twelve months ago. I was in California. No, I can’t put words to it. I always wanted stuff like this to happen to me, but I just never thought it would happen this fast. I never thought that it would all come at once.

Are you more excited or nervous for the Grammys?

I think once I sit down I’ll be nervous. Right now I’m excited. I don’t want to practice an acceptance speech because I feel like that’s going to jinx it, but it’s an honor to be nominated.

What does the rest of 2016 look like?

Rest of the year we got a pretty much sold out tour I think except one city. Everything sold out.
