Coldplay’s Chris Martin is wanting to work with Rihanna on her next album. In a recent interview with New York’s Fresh 102.7, the singer of the British rock band stated “It’s like trying to win ‘American Idol,’ getting a song on Rihanna’s album. It’s hard. Everybody wants to write songs for her.”
Since their release of “Princess of China” on Coldplay’s album Mylo Xyloto back in 2011, the two haven’t done any collaborations since. “I love being in the studio with Rihanna,” Martin said. “I wasn’t necessarily ‘with,’ I was working for her. I don’t think she even asked, I just said, ‘Please, can I try something?'”
Coldplay has been known to have deep lyrics within their songs and have reached the top of the music charts with hits such as “Speed of Sound” and “Clocks” and even a Grammy award for song of the year, “Viva La Vida”. All of their albums have reached No. 1 on UK’s music charts and their last four albums have reached top spots in the U.S. including their most recent album, Ghost Stories. The album introduced a new tone as their single “Sky Full of Stars” was produced by big name EDM DJ/Producer, Avicii.
“We’re just having a lot of fun with music,” Martin said. “I don’t worry about the categories anymore, where we’re supposed to fit. It doesn’t really matter. To not do a song like (“A Sky Full of Stars”) would be to deny part of me that, I love that kind of music.” Coldplay is in the works of their seventh studio and made no promises that Rihanna would appear on their album.
These two made a great song in “Princess of China” and it would be fun to hear a second production from the two Grammy winners in the future.
