Christina Grimmie Awarded Teen Choice Award Posthumously

Christina Grimmie has been awarded her very first surfboard at the 2016 Teen Choice Awards. The singer won the Teen Choice Web Star: Music award, with nominations like Johnny Orlando and Boyce Avenue. The award comes two months after the singer was tragically shot and killed on the 11th June outside one of her concerts in Orlando, while signing autographs for fans.

The American star and YouTuber was a finalist on The Voice and for her covers of hit songs by contemporary pop musicians. She was the backup singer for Selena Gomez, and there were unconfirmed reports of her being in the studio with Dirty South just days before her shooting. All of 22-years of age, the talented star looked to a great future ahead. Her music posthumously earned her a Teen Choice Award, an award she had dreamed of winning, by beating out 5 popular stars to win the award.

There was some controversy though, as Christina’s award was not announced at the show that was aired on FOX, apparently due to lack of time, as the Teen Choice Awards contain over 50 individual awards. Christina’s fans aren’t happy about the fact that the singer was not specifically recognized on screen, as her death happened so recently. Also her family was ‘definitely disappointed’ she was not mentioned at the show airing on FOX.
