Cafe Tacvba, Molotov, Ozomatli will headline Ruido Fest in Chicago from July 10th to the 12th. The controversial band Molotov came under fire in 2013 for the use of homophobic lyrics in their song “Puto”. The group has insisted the lyrics have been taken out of context. They attempted to clear up the message behind their lyrics on Facebook but stopped short of an apology for the use of derogatory language against gay people:

“Our music gives a voice to the people who aren’t in a position to do so for themselves and often times we sing about things that some governments don’t want you to see or hear. It is in this context that we composed the song “Puto.” It was conceived as a athartic song about our situation in Mexico at the time in the late ‘90’s and dedicated to anyone who attempts our freedom, to any coward who attempts against the people and to anyone who attempts against humanity. It was never meant to disrespect the gay community.” – Molotov

Ruido Fest is being organized by the same people that brought us the alternative music festival Riot Fest. The first of its kind in the United States, Ruido Fest will bring Latin America’s top Rock, Punk, Hip Hop and Reggae acts to the states. The festival will take place from July 10th to the 12th in Addams Park in Pilsen-Chicago.
