THE TAKE 5 SERIES
Cosmic Gate is a German DJ duo that has been spinning records since 1999––that’s right, their music spans across three different decades and two different millenniums. In that time, the trance duo has released nine studio albums. A frequent entry into DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs since 2003, they are best known for “Exploration of Space,” a 2001 single that boasts millions of streams across listening platforms.
Their latest releases include “Your Mind” and “Universal Love,” two singles released earlier this year. Their remixes have also been enjoyed globally, covering artists such as Tiësto and Ferry Corsten. In 2015, they collaborated with Armin van Buuren on trance track “Embargo,” which was featured on the Dutch DJ’s studio album “Embrace.”
This year, of course, was unlike any other that Cosmic Gate has experienced. Their music has taken on a completely different look: fans can enjoy a live experience from the comfort of their bedrooms with “Cosmic Gate in Concert,” virtual livestreams where the duo jams out in front of a camera.
To learn more about Cosmic Gate, including the craziest thing they’ve ever done, read our interview with them below:
Q; Before we dig in, tell us about your latest project.
Thanks for having us guys! We just recently did our ‘Cosmic Gate In Concert’ virtual streams exclusively for our fans online, we did on “Your Mind” set which featured our latest releases from our last album and our huge Andrew Bayer collab ‘The Launch’, with our second set showcasing “Classics” from across two decades in the industry. We wanted to deliver something to our fans during these tough times and we combined forces with Miami’s The Temple House venue who have super cool 3-D visual mapping technology to create something as visually attention-grabbing than a lot of other simple livestreams out there. We thought “If you can’t come to Cosmic Gate, Cosmic Gate are gonna come to you!” – you can still check it out on-demand if you missed it first time around at www.tixr.com/groups/cosmicgate !
Q: What cocktail (or drink) recipe is getting you through the pandemic?
Wine, lots of wine!
Q: What’s the last song you listened to thats not yours?
Bob Moses & ZHU – Desire (Solomun Remix) – been sounding epic on our latest Wake Your Mind Radio show!
Q: What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done and would you do it again?
I thin the fact that we still manage to do this twenty years on, as a duo with a vision and loyal fanbase that have stuck by us, feels like the craziest thing we could have wished for that has come true!
Q: If you could know the absolute and total truth to one question, what question would you ask?
Is there life on Mars?
Q: You must survive in the Amazon Rainforest for a year. Which 3 DJs or industry friends would you take with you and why?
- Tiesto: Tijs is so well connected, he might get a flight out from the deepest Jungle even.
- W&W: Their sheer size makes Willem and Ward the perfect bodyguards, we hope at least boys!?
- Tony from Above & Beyond, we love to hang out with him, always great company.
Q: Which fictional character would be the most exciting to meet in real life?
Def Superman! He could fly us from show to show, and back home before jet lag kicks in, how awesome would that be?!
Q: What's the first show that really blew your mind?
When thinking shows we are thinking Netflix, and then that might have been House of Cards – such a good show!
Q: Do you sing in the shower? What track do you sing that your fans won’t guess?
Not really! Thinking about it, it could’ve been Abba’s ‘Waterloo’ though after seeing the Eurovision song contest movie with Will Ferrell the other week 😊
Q: And finally, what’s on your Netflix watch list?
The last show we watched was Salvation, not a new story but actually quite good, next on the list is The Alienist, always open for some tips here though 🙂
