February 13th’s V05 NME Awards saw many great artists take home their very own middle-finger-shaped trophy, including Craig David and Bastille! Their single “I Know You” won the Best Collaboration award.
“The track, which was released in November 2017, features on David’s new album, ‘The Time Is Now’ and was produced by Fraser T. Smith, who has previously worked with Adele and Stormzy,” reports NME.
David took the opportunity to thank NME for the recognition and support, as well as giving a big thank you to his partners in winning, the members of Bastille. He also mentioned that he did not expect to win a new fanbase during this career comeback.
The Independent reports that, more than a decade after he first began generating buzz with his music, David has had a big revival in the last few years. He said that his main motivation was just to make music that “his core fans who have been there from day one would appreciate.”
It was a surprise to him that his new music would attract a different crowd: “But to have people who are like, have you heard of this new guy, Craig David, he’s got this album out – I never expected that.
“So I think that’s the major difference, but outside of that it’s all about making good music.
“Music always rides to the top.”
