DubVision: The Power of Music

Joining us at the Phillips space, in the Nexus Lounge, Miami edition, we spoke with Stephen Leicher of DubVision fame about his inspirations, his tastes in techno/progressive house, and his passion for music.

Stephen and Victor Leicher are two halves of the incredible DubVision duo. With a career spanning over a decade and releases across a handful of labels, including Spinnin’ Records, Armada, and Stmpd Rcrds, to name a few, DubVision is quite at home on the EDM circuit.

During that time, however, Stephen noted that he’s only really played independently now. Unfortunately, his brother couldn’t make it to this year’s Miami Music Week, leaving Stephen to take the reins.

"Yeah, it's a really bad excuse," says Stephen, jokingly, "but he's having a kid. He's becoming a father for the first time and I'm becoming an uncle."

Of course, while it was a shame we didn’t see these two incredible brothers performing together at this year’s Miami Music Week, here at Nexus, we wish Victor all the best and look forward to seeing a reunited DubVision once things have settled down a bit.

Of course, a brotherly dynamic naturally shapes the music they produce, as Stephen is happy to admit. The pair started when they were young, with Victor—the older of the two—giving Stephen guidance and advice. From there, they began collaborating together, and the rest is history. These days, Stephen focuses more on the production side while Victor is more of a DJ.

DubVision

Discussing the evolution of their sound, we wanted to know how DubVision developed their approach to Progressive House and what the genre means to them.

"To me, the most important thing in our music and the music we like is feeling. I love a good techno track. Don't get me wrong, I love instrumental and hard tracks, but to feel something, I like melodies and vocals that give you a really euphoric feeling - a really energetic feeling! I think that's amazing, and I think it's the power of music."

Of course, every artist is passionate about their work, and DubVision is no different. When asked about his passions outside of music, his answer was simple.

"I was never happy doing studies. I was always back to music and thinking about music. If I weren't a DJ, I would work at a label or A&R and interview people about music. I can't imagine anything but music."

Right now, DubVision is working on a new album, although the details are unreleased. Nonetheless, we’re excited to see what they’ve got coming down the road here at Nexus.
