We caught up with incredibly talented DJ and producer Ward Andrews at the Nexus Lounge during Miami Music Week 2025. The Phoenix-based artist brought his signature progressive and melodic house vibes to the lounge and talked us through his latest releases before answering a rapid-fire round of questions during our signature Nexus Take 5 segment.
Ward Andrews is a progressive and melodic house artist whose musical journey began in the early ’90s, inspired by mixtapes, cassette players, and frequent visits to local record shops. After refining his craft through piano studies and diving into electronic music production during the 2020 pandemic, he emerged with a unique sound that blends 70s disco, 80s synthpop, 90s house, and modern dance music.

Getting into our interview, Ward shares that he’s been riding a creative high, with the recent release of his single “Future Memories” and an upcoming track, “Uncharted Course,” both leading into an EP dropping in May. True to his long-form roots, these aren’t quick two-minute bangers — they’re five-to-six-minute journeys that defy the radio-friendly mold. “Everyone’s saying to keep it short,” he said, “but I’ve got the extended versions on vPort.”

Ward also opened up about his artistic mindset. “The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to enjoy the moment,” he said. “You’re creating future memories.” It’s a message embedded not just in his music, but in his creative process. Coming from a design background, Ward sees critique as part of the journey. “There’s truth in all feedback,” he explained. “It’s about curiosity and growth.”
The most unexpected source of inspiration? A tree. “I was hit by a tree in Hawaii,” he revealed. “I had a traumatic brain injury. For a while I couldn’t do anything — and now I’m better than ever.” That moment of loss, and eventual recovery, gave him a renewed gratitude for his creative gifts.
Now, as he continues building a catalog described as “spiritual,” “cinematic,” and “uplifting,” Ward’s focus is clear: be present, stay curious, and make music that feels both familiar and new.
