Joining us in the G-Shock popup studio at the Nexus Lounge Amsterdam edition, we spoke with Belgian DJ ‘The Magician’ about his upcoming projects, an exciting collaboration, and a potential name change.

Known for his iconic remixes and his hit 2014 single “Sunlight, The Magician is an award-winning artist whose international appeal has been growing for the best of a decade. During that time, he’s been no stranger to collaboration, a trend that’s not set to end anytime soon.

Performing with fellow DJ A-Trak at this year’s ADE, the pair followed that up with the November 10th release of their new single, Love On You, also featuring Griff Clawson. With all that happening around him, it’s no surprise that he was feeling the busy schedule during his two days at ADE 2023.

“I would love to stop the time. I would love to because 24 hours a day is not enough to accomplish what I have to do, but, in the end, even with double, I would also be busy because I love to do things. I love to keep busy, and that keeps me alive, actually - to make things, to travel, to meet friends.”

And it’s not just music that’s been taking up his time lately, either. Having recently married, he talked about his experience holding a three-day wedding, during which he naturally took the opportunity to get up on the dance floor and take a turn at DJing. Not that he was the only DJ there, mind you. All in all, they had 10 DJs over the three days. It just goes to show the benefits of having musical friends.

Things don’t look set to slow down next year either, as his next album, one he’s been working on for a year and a half now, is set to be released. As if that wasn’t enough, he’ll perform live at Coachella. Suffice it to say The Magician is a busy man.

Not that he’ll be The Magician for much longer. He says he’ll be ‘Magician’ in his next project. Could that be a sign of more changes to come? If so, then those changes may be just around the corner.

“I think new disco’s going to come back, but before - if we follow the circle - the next thing will be electro. And electro-like from 2000 to 2005. The real electro mixed with rock and things like that. We’ll see. Techno is here at the moment. Eurodance is back.”
