LADY GAGA GETS SERIOUS THIS YEAR

This month is quite a busy one for Lady Gaga, who will be performing three nationally broadcasted events. She performed the opening of the Super Bowl on Sunday and will soon be performing at both the Grammys and the Oscars. Gaga will be the first to perform at all three of these events in one year– a fact of which she is surely proud.

Gaga has been preparing for her performance at the Grammys, where she will be performing a special tribute to David Bowie. Due to the passing of such a dearly beloved star as Bowie, most of the Grammys’ performances will be tributes the great singer. However, it seems that Lady Gaga will have an especially spectacular Bowie performance.

Gaga and Bowie clearly have many parallels in their performance and dress style, constantly challenging socially accepted standards of beauty and gender norms with flamboyant costume and behavior. It is said that Gaga will be performing several of the icon’s songs. Posting pictures from rehearsals on her new Snap Chat account, the singer has been showing her excitement over the project.

This last Sunday at the Super Bowl, Gaga sang the “Star Spangled Banner” in the opening ceremony. Dressed in a red glitter pantsuit with her blonde hair teased back, she belted out our National Anthem in her beautiful, almost operatic voice.

The star was honored to have the opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl, saying in an interview after the event, “It’s kind of ancient history stuff, in the Greek and Roman history, performing for the greatest athletics in the world is the highest honor. I’m Italian and European, so for me, it was such an honor as an American.” This provocative star is beginning to show off a more sophisticated side that most had not seen before now.

However, the singer has been proving herself to be a more and more serious artist in the last few years. She has been dipping into her acting career on “American Horror Story: Hotel”, as well as moving into exploring singing jazz with Tony Bennett, and not to mention her powerful commentary on sexual assault as seen in her video “Til It Happens to You.” While bad girl Gaga seems to be “growing up,” she is still maintaining her own unique voice and influence in this world.

Those that thought Gaga’s career was beginning to wind down have yet to see even half of it. Gaga is starting this year off strong by stepping up her game. Let us all hope it continues.
