After months of speculation and all but certain announcement, Madonna appeared on the Today show to confirm she will make an appearance at Pride Island on Sunday, June 30th during Pride Weekend in NYC.
“I hear you! I’ll be on Pride Island, where I was born,” Madame X said in a video showing her on a beach, wrapped in a rainbow towel.
Year after year the Pride Island has announced household name headliners including Kylie Minogue to Cher, with many guessing that Madonna would be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots — and to promote her new album, Madame X. Tickets for the event have been sold out for months.
“The community called loud and clear for an appearance by Madonna at Pride Island for WorldPride and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. I’m thrilled to report that Madonna and WorldPride NYC delivered on that call,” said Chris Frederick, NYC Pride’s Executive Director. “This is going to be a night that our Pride Island guests will remember for the rest of their lives.”
NYC Pride Island takes place on June 29 and 30th at Pier 97 in New York.
