Like trimming the tree and procrastinating gift buying, the release of pop stars’ holiday albums has become just another Christmas tradition (see: Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey, Kelly Clarkson). And while Mariah has long been the reigning pop queen of Christmas, she may be getting some competition in the form of Kylie Minogue.

The Sun reports that the Australian singer plans to release a Christmas album this year and is apparently halfway through the recording. The mix of classic and original tracks will all be disco influenced, a source says, adding the reasoning behind the album: “She wants to take her time on a new release but can’t be away from the charts for long, so a Christmas album is the obvious choice.”

No news yet on the exact release date of the upcoming LP. In the meantime we’ll just have to wet our beaks with her versions of “Santa Baby” and “Let It Snow” off her 2010 Christmas EP. Because nothing gets you pumped for summer partying like A Kylie Christmas, natch.
