Mario Clavasquin stopped by the Nexus Lounge in Miami at the Goodtime hotel to chat with us. Originally rising to fame as part of NXNY, Mario has since embarked on a solo journey to explore his unique creative vision.

Mario Clavasquin is not just another DJ/producer; he’s an artist sculpting his narrative within the electronic dance music industry. Born and raised in New York City, his journey began with NXNY, achieving remarkable success with millions of streams worldwide. Yet, Mario’s ambition did not stop there. He set out on his own to push the boundaries further and dive deep into personal expression through his music.

The interview began with a casual exchange, with Mario reflecting on his early days. “The good thing about me is that I grew up with a lot of other DJs,” he shared, noting how their influence helped shape his craft from a young age. Learning alongside “pioneer DJs,” Mario faced the challenge of proving himself, which he embraced as part of his growth.

DJ Ron further inquired about how evolving DJ tools have impacted learning for new generations. Mario pondered, “It has made it easier for a lot of DJs to become DJs,” yet, he remarked on the emergence of a creative space for DJs who want to stand out with their originality and style. Such environments, he believes, allow DJs to “create mixes on the fly, remixes, edits,” pointing to a resurgence of creativity in the field.

Looking forward, Mario reveals exciting projects on his horizon. Notably, apart from producing new releases, one significant initiative is his self-created event—Mass Vida. Held in Medellin, Colombia, these parties exemplify Mario’s bold approach to connecting cultures, music, and people. As he notes, these events take place “every other month in different areas of Colombia,” emphasizing his commitment to creating vibrant musical experiences.

The conversation took a lighter turn with a quick-fire round of quirky questions, revealing facets of Mario’s personality. When asked what animal might be the rudest if they could talk, Mario’s humorous response was, “A giraffe,” adding a playful twist to the interview’s dynamic.

The interview concluded on a reflective note, with Ron asking about handling failure. Mario responded with the wisdom of experience, saying that failure is “not the end of all. It means that I could just try again or go a different direction.” His resilience shines through, underscoring a philosophy driven by positivity and perseverance.
