During Miami Music Week, we caught up with multihyphenate DJ extraordinaire Lolo Mayhew in our CALPAK Space at the Nexus Lounge Miami. The actress-turned-DJ chatted about her experience at MMW, gave us a TED Talk on packing for travel, and played a quick game of our signature Nexus Take 5 Series.

Lolo’s journey through the entertainment industry reads like a whirlwind of success and talent. Hailing from the United States, she’s not just a singer, DJ, and actress but a multi-faceted force to be reckoned with.

Lolo’s graced stages across the globe, from the bustling cities of the US to the vibrant landscapes of South Africa, Belgium, Holland, Dubai, and Tokyo, captivating audiences with her electrifying performances.

Signed to EPIC SONY, Lolo has shared the spotlight with icons like Britney Spears, Destiny’s Child, and Aerosmith, showcasing her prowess not just as a performer but as a skilled songwriter with over 250 original compositions licensed for film, TV, and commercials. From WWE’s “Smackdown to hosting duties on “Access Hollywood,” Mayhew’s career has been a testament to her boundless energy and creativity.

Lolo’s most recent track, “Sweet Dreams, is a clever reworking of The Eurythmic’s iconic track. She leaves her indelible techno influence in this version, which features production from INViDA and was released through Voodoo Music.

Getting to the interview, Lolo shares that she’s excited to be back at Miami Music Week, having already caught performances from Purple Disco Machine and Claptone. With the latter, Lolo will share the stage this summer as part of Summer Club in New York City.

With her new single “Feel So Right, featuring DJ Lucky Guess, coming out on April 19 through Storm Music, Lolo’s got a busy year of travel ahead. And though she doesn’t love flying, Lolo is filled with good tips on packing to make traveling a little bit less of a pain. Her pro tips? Packing boots with underwear and clipping her hats to a backpack to avoid flattening them. Genius.

On a more serious note, we ask the DJ how she feels seeing the world’s lineups slowly becoming more populated with female DJs. She shares:

"I love being able to collaborate with other female DJs and musical artists. So that's a lot of fun. I think it's great that, you know, in something that has been such a male dominate space before that we are really making our mark."

Before she heads out, we ask Lolo to play a quick game of our Nexus Take 5 Series. She tells us a little bit about her favorite toys growing up and her philosophy on how music can influence your behavior and style…

But we’ll let you discover her in-depth answers via the full-length and exclusive interview below. And, as always, make sure to follow us on Instagram @nexusradiodance for more exclusive interviews with dance music’s biggest artists.
