Joining us at the G-shock popup studio at the Nexus Lounge Amsterdam, we sat down with Les Castizos to talk about their latest work, what they’ve got coming next, and how music has impacted their lives.

Known for their unpredictable and innovative live shows, Les Castizos is a Spanish DJ duo who’ve spent eight years building a reputation for their boundary-pushing, experimental EDM. Major fans of Amsterdam Dance Event, this year saw the pair in attendance for the fifth time running, coming together with countless other musicians in the European dance music capital to enjoy the electrifying energy of this iconic industry meetup.

Les Castizos

If you’ve not heard Les Castizos yet, then you’re seriously missing out. Their most recent release, “El Pescador,” is a catchy, stripped-back track that knows how to do a lot with a little. With a fast-paced, percussive sound, it’s the kind of beat that’s hard to resist and has enough energy to win over even the toughest of crowds.

After a release like that, we were wondering what’s next, and, by the sound of it, something exciting is in the pipeline. Their upcoming track, “La Paloma,” will be a collaboration with Latin House legend Hugel, and while they couldn’t say too much, their excitement was palpable. We can only wait and see what they’ve got in store for us.

Some artists find it challenging to avoid being sucked into the day-to-day work of live shows, but that’s not the case for Les Castizos. Despite working hard to get their music out into the world, they’ve never lost their strong sense of humor, which they credit to their Spanish roots. “We live in the south of Spain,” they say, “and in the South of Spain, all the people joke with each other.”

Of course, every artist has their style/brand, but that’s not to say their tastes might not go a bit further. For Les Castizos, they enjoy listening to Reggaeton when they’re looking for something a little different. The genre might not fit their overall sound, and you’d never catch it in their sets, but that shows how eclectic individual tastes can be.

“Music is everything in our lives. Our happiness is for the music. Our lifestyle is for the music. Music is our life.”
