THE TAKE 5 SERIES

Wankelmut is the German-based DJ behind 2014 hit single “My Head is a Jungle,” a song that took one summer in Europe by storm. His remixes are the rave with listeners across the world: the artist first reached the global stage in 2012, with his remix of Asaf Avidan’s “One Day / Reckoning Song.” The remix has hundreds of millions of streams across music platforms and enjoyed being #1 in eight different European countries.

His 2017 remix of Dennis Lloyd’s “Nevermind” has also been a favorite amongst music lovers. Other artists that Wankelmut has remixed include Lenny Kravitz, Hozier, Gossip, and Flight Faciilities.

More recently, Wankelmut has been pumping out music for his 1.9 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Wankelmut released latest single ‘Sunset’ this November. The month before that, fans got to enjoy “Free At Last,” a collaboration with singer Anna Leyne.

Wankelmut’s German audience can jam with him every month on his radio show, one that takes place on WDR 1Live, Germany’s biggest radio station. The show is four years in the running.

To learn more about Wankelmut, including the craziest thing he’s ever done, read our interview with him below:

Q: Before we dig in, tell us about your latest project.

Recently I was very busy in the studio working on my own productions and also a couple of remixes. The latest project was my brand new single ‘Sunset’ which got released 27th Nov 2020

Q: What’s the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten?

I did various DJ tours in Asia and got offered many weird things labeled as ‘super delicious’. A pretty weird one is Japanese ‘Fugu Fish’ which is actually poisoned. Not that easy to prepare I have been told. You need a three-year apprenticeship.

Q: What’s the last song you listened to that’s not yours?

Model Man – Love surrounds (CINTHIE Remix)

Q: Do you sing in the shower? What track do you sing that your fans won’t guess?

Yes. I am pretty good at doing ‘Coming undone’ by KORN.

Q: If you could choose any two famous people to have dinner with who would they be?

Barack Obama & Dua Lipa together at one table. Location should be a nice Cuban restaurant in Miami.

Q: What's the first show that blew your mind?

For myself, as a DJ it was the sunrise gig at Germany’s 2013 Melt Festival within this huge industrial landscape with thousands of people. That was pretty early in my career as a DJ and it was mindblowing.

Q: And finally, what’s on your Netflix watch list?

Trying to watch TOP BOY series for so long but couldn’t make it so far. Hopefully during Christmas.
