Since his explosion into the EDM arena, ascending into one of EDM’s most prominent figures, Skrillex has been skimming through various genres to meet musical goals. The iconic DJ has consistently worked hard, either by himself or as part of Major Lazer and Jack Ü, to push past EDM trappings and expand his skills into the music community at large.
In a recent interview with Billboard, it was not too much of a surprise when Skrillex teased his upcoming collaboration with fellow American musician, singer-songwriter and record producer Bruno Mars.
While Skrillex has not divulged too many details on their upcoming collaboration with Mars, he revealed cryptically “I’m actually working with Bruno Mars right now. I’m not going to give specifics of what it sounds like, but what we’re doing is so f–king different, awesome and next level and sounds like nothing else that’s happened before. Every time I get in the studio with somebody else and collaborate, that’s when I always have revelations and learn about stuff. And I just love stepping outside of what I know and there’s no other music position that can do that.”
Bruno Mars on the other hand has tweeted he was on a mission to make music he’s genuinely proud of. While Mars is now in the studio with Missy Elliot, it would be not too surprising to see his collaboration with Skrillex being dropped around the same time.
I'm on a mission. I'm Obsessed to make an album I'm genuinely proud of. Stick with me Hooligans. I'll get there. Love Brunz
