Take5 with the Masterful Mister Ruiz

THE TAKE 5 SERIES

Mister Ruiz

Mister Ruiz is swiftly becoming a streaming sensation. With his instantly recognizable mix of house and electronic styles, the Brazilian artist has taken Spotify by storm. With millions of streams on his existing tracks, this DJ and producer show no signs of stopping any time soon.

There’s only one word to describe Mister Ruiz’s output in the last year, and that word is prolific. His first track, “Love Alive,” dropped in September 2020, and, going by his YouTube, Spotify, and SoundCloud accounts, he’s been hard at work ever since. He’s been pumping out new songs like there’s no tomorrow, but we’re certainly not complaining. In that short period, he’s released an astonishing ten new singles, including tracks like “Feel Only Love,” “Talk to Each Other,” and “Godzilla.”
The pandemic has had a remarkable effect on every industry, and that’s just as true for musicians as it is for bars, restaurants, shops, and cinemas. Without the prospect of live audiences, many artists have expressed difficulties in matching their usual level of output. With that in mind, it’s even more outstanding that this 24-year-old artist has appeared, almost out of nowhere, in that short time.
What’s next for Brazil’s newest up-and-coming star? Is there more to this musician than meets the eye?

Now I’m focused on my upcoming shows; it’s been a long time since the pandemic, I can’t stand to be at home anymore.

Q: Why did you choose to make dance music?

Because my generation was heavily impacted by the beginning of festival streaming on Youtube, it’s impossible not to be enchanted by the whole history of Dance Music from the mid-’70s until today; it’s fascinating.

Q: How important are lyrics?

Lyrics are essential; it’s what can save or ruin a song.

Q: What do you think of Robots making music?

I want to challenge them in a studio session. Do you have these engineers’ phone numbers?

Q: What's something everyone should experience at least once in their life?

Meditation is something exceptional that everyone could allow themselves to experience at least once in their lifetime.

Q: Do you ever sing while taking a shower or having a bath? Why is this popular? Do you sing in tune?

Oh yeah, what could be more human than singing in the bathroom? It’s the best place in the house for out-of-tune people like me to sketch that kind of talent (lol)

Q: What was the weirdest habit you had as a child?

I had an obsession with red Lego blocks.

Q: If you could go back in time and inspire someone to make a present-day invention, what invention would advance humanity the most?

iPhone, did you ever think about having this in the 90s? It’s just as important as breathing and eating.

Q: Can You Dream Of Having A Dream?

This happens often. I also have a song about it called “Dreaming in Circles.”

Q: What double standard is ridiculous and needs to be ended?

When politicians complain about corruption, but most of them are co
