Thomas Brückner, the acclaimed Munich-born DJ and producer best known for the 2002 electro house hit ‘Loneliness’, has passed away. Brückner, who performed under the alias Tomcraft, died on July 15, 2024. The announcement was made through a heartfelt post on his social media pages by his family today, July 16th.

Family’s Heartfelt Tribute

n a moving statement, Brückner’s family shared the news of his passing: “With a heavy heart we need to inform you that yesterday, the 15.07.2024, our beloved father and husband has passed away. We will forever carry you in our hearts and love you until we’re reunited again.” The family has not disclosed the cause of his death.

A Celebrated Career

Brückner’s influence on the electronic music scene was profound. He began his career in Munich in 1994, showcasing a unique blend of techno and progressive trance. His debut track, ‘This Is No House’, was released in 1995, marking the start of a prolific journey in music.

In 1996, Brückner teamed up with Eniac, a collaboration that produced several successful tracks, including ‘Viva’, ‘Prozac’, and ‘Silence’. However, it was their 2002 release, ‘Loneliness’, that catapulted them to international fame. The track, featuring a distinctive vocal hook sampled from Andrea Martin’s ‘Share The Love’, became a chart-topping hit. It was released in Germany in September 2002 and in the UK in April 2003, where it soared to No.1 on the charts. Tomcraft’s appearance on Top Of The Pops in May 2003 further solidified his status as a leading figure in the electro house genre.

A Lasting Legacy

‘Loneliness’ left an enduring mark on the music industry. In 2015, British pop artist Will Young sampled the track in his single ‘Love Revolution’, and in 2023, Dutch EDM star Hardwell, alongside DJs From Mars, released a remix of the iconic track.

Brückner continued to influence the electronic music scene, playing to massive crowds, including a memorable performance to 1.3 million people at Berlin’s Love Parade in 2003. He released four albums throughout his career, with his last album, ‘For The Queen’, dropping in 2007. His latest single, ‘Rude Place’, was released in March 2024, showing his continued passion and dedication to his craft.

Just days before his passing, Brückner shared an Instagram post recapping his recent DJ set at the Steinbruch Open Air festival. His sudden death came as a shock to many in the music community. DJ Westbam, a close friend and collaborator, shared his sorrow in a Facebook tribute: “I chatted with him three days ago and he said he was recovering from a flu but seemed in good spirits. Tom had fantastic new music coming and was very much looking forward to playing with all of us at Rave The Planet. As we know now: That wasn’t to be. It is truly heartbreaking. Rest in peace Brother.”
