Toxic Joy: Dirty Grooves, Relentless Energy, and a Tech House Vision

Few artists capture raw dancefloor intensity quite like Toxic Joy. In a high-energy conversation with Josh from Nexus Radio at the Nexus Lounge, the Dutch producer opened up about his creative drive, his roots, and the sound that’s been shaking clubs and festivals around the world.

Known for his gritty, high-octane tech house style, Toxic Joy brings a distinctly dirty edge to every track—one that’s built to command attention. Speaking with Josh, he shared how much he values reconnecting with international friends and collaborators, while also appreciating the rare comfort of experiencing major moments close to home. That balance between global reach and grounded perspective clearly fuels his confidence and focus.

Toxic Joy

New music is never far from Toxic Joy’s mind. He revealed that he plays a lot of unreleased material in his sets, constantly testing ideas on the dance floor. One of the most exciting milestones in his career is an upcoming release on SIZE Records, founded by Steve Angello. It marks his first release with the label and the culmination of a year’s worth of focused work.

Creatively, Toxic Joy is disciplined and prolific. He explained that he tries to develop at least one solid musical idea every single day. Drums are the heartbeat of his sound—the foundation on which everything else is built. Once the groove is locked, melodic elements naturally follow, creating tracks that feel both raw and infectious.

A rapid-fire segment revealed his experimental mindset. When asked whether he’d rather remix the sound of a crying baby or a printer, his answer was instant—and amused. The mechanical rhythms of a printer, he said, offer far more creative potential. That curiosity and willingness to find music in unexpected places is part of what defines his productions.

Looking beyond electronic music, Toxic Joy cited Tame Impala as a major influence, praising Kevin Parker’s songwriting and sonic depth. His Dutch upbringing also surfaced in lighter moments, as he fondly recommended local comfort food that reminds him of school days and simpler times.

Reflecting on his journey, Toxic Joy described his upcoming release with SIZE as a milestone earned through persistence and hard work. Gratitude and hunger coexist in his outlook—thankful for progress, but always pushing forward.  Listen to the full interview below.
