Hanging out with Vassy is always a highlight of any music conference. Her new song “Lost,” with Afrojack, actually started from a session at Amsterdam Dance Event just two years ago. We know this because we were eating dinner at a Thai restaurant on the Leidseplein when Afrojack called her.
Vassy’s talent and intense work ethic has made her one of most successful people in the EDM world. Not just in sales (her records with David Guetta and Tiesto have gone more than 15 times platinum), but in the respect she has earned. In a world focused on DJs, Vassy is one of the few singer/songwriters whose name now comes before the word “featuring” instead of after. That’s a major achievement.
While we took a moment to recognize her incredible nail art, we also asked about how she manages to be successful both in the EDM/Festival world and at Gay Prides around the globe. I “be myself and people recognize that, I am natural in any setting.” Her powerhouse vocal performance and catalog of massive hits also help.
Looking forward to 2018, Vassy has a new record coming with Tiesto, along with a slew of solo singles in the pipeline. “2018 is going to be a very Vassy year.” We will be with her every step of the way, making sure she is amply supplied with hand cream and baklava.
