A Young Life Lost At EDC Las Vegas

Music festivals, at the outset are associated with great times filled with euphoria surrounded by people listening to great performers performing great music; however there are aspects about these festivals that are not hunky-dory, as one would think. At such enormous gatherings, death often lurks at the corners; death due overdosing, dehydration, hyperthermia – just to name a few. Not to mention, fires at the festival venues, like the recent one at EDC Las Vegas.

Kenani Kailuloa, a 20 year old, loving middle child to both her mother and father, was one such casualty at the recent EDC Las Vegas Music Festival that was held at Las Vegas, Nevada. The Monday after the festival, as she and a few friends waited for the shuttle she collapsed to the ground experiencing seizures. Due to traffic at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway the ambulances took time to reach her. Her temperature was at a dangerous degree of 110 by the time they reached the hospital, but then it was too late. She was declared dead on the 22nd of June, leaving behind a father who is an Iraq war veteran, a devastated mother and two heartbroken siblings.

Insomniac Events, which puts on EDC, issued a statement about the incident “Our sincerest thoughts and condolences go to the family and friends of the guest who passed away after attending the festival. While the cause of this tragedy has not yet been determined, we ask everyone to keep her loved ones in their prayers during this time of grieving.”
