Huminal & Mitch de Klein Weave Sonic Magic with Their “Mirage” EP on Purified Records

THE Level 7 SERIES

Dutch producers Huminal and Mitch de Klein have teamed up for a mesmerizing new release on Purified Records, titled “Mirage”. It’s a meeting of minds and melodies that showcases two artists in perfect creative harmony. After a summer of standout performances across Europe’s electronic music circuit, the pair channel their energy into an EP that embodies depth, emotion, and forward-thinking sound design.

The Sound of Mirage

The title track “Mirage” invites listeners into a lush, melodic journey—one that feels both introspective and euphoric. Driven by groovy synth motifs and intricate rhythmic layers, the track effortlessly balances drive and calm, delivering that rare blend of energy and emotional pull that defines the Purified sound. It’s the kind of record that ignites dancefloors while simultaneously inviting reflection—a hallmark of both artists’ styles.

On the flip side, Mitch steps into the spotlight with his solo cut “Night Owl”, an expansive and atmospheric composition that feels like a late-night voyage through time and space. Ethereal synths and deep textures give the track a cinematic edge, building toward a crescendo that lingers long after the final note fades.

Artistic Alchemy

For Huminal (aka Jelle Jansen), “Mirage” continues a journey defined by rich, melodic storytelling. Known for blending organic textures with intricate electronic soundscapes, his productions have earned the admiration of tastemakers like Eelke Kleijn, Lane 8, and Nora En Pure. His work captures that delicate balance between beauty and motion—music that feels alive and cinematic.

Meanwhile, Mitch de Klein brings his own refined sensibility to the table. With past support from names like Joris Voorn and RÜFÜS DU SOL, Mitch’s sound embodies the versatility and innovation of modern melodic house and techno. His production style combines precision with emotion—music crafted not just for clubs, but for connection.

The Art Behind the Sound

Adding another layer of meaning, the “Mirage” EP artwork—captured by underwater photographer Rachel Moore—features a serene jellyfish gliding through the vast blue of French Polynesia. Moore’s work, aligned with The Nature Conservancy’s mission to protect marine ecosystems, reflects the EP’s deeper theme: balance between beauty, motion, and preservation. The label also encourages listeners to explore Only One, an action platform dedicated to ocean health and climate solutions—turning the music’s inspiration into tangible action.

Level 7 Q&A: Huminal & Mitch de Klein

Q: Tell us about your latest project.

Huminal: My collab with Mitch de Klein, “Mirage”, will be released on Purified Records. The idea started about a year and a half ago after I was inspired by his track “Embrace.” Our studio sessions were incredibly fun and productive—“Mirage” has since become a special moment in my DJ sets.
Mitch de Klein: After running into each other countless times at festivals, we decided to hit the studio. We’re both pretty laidback, and that chemistry showed. The main idea came quickly, and after a few sessions, we had the final version—tested and approved on dancefloors for over a year!

Q: What’s your creative process like when producing a new track?

Huminal: I usually start with the main melody and build around it. Most of my music centers on a theme or hook, so starting with melody first just feels natural.
Mitch de Klein: It depends! Some days I start with melodies, other days a beat or a vocal sample. But I always make sure the low end feels solid early on—that groove drives the rest.

Q: What’s the weirdest or most unexpected place you’ve drawn inspiration from?

Huminal: The sound of toothpicks dropping on the floor! I recorded and processed it with reverb and delay—it became a white noise/cymbal effect in my Tame Impala edit.
Mitch de Klein: At Awakenings in the Gashouder, they lit fireworks inside, and the sound inspired the drop in my track “Code.” I tried to recreate that exact feeling.

Q: If you had to swap lives with a cartoon character for a week, who would it be?

Huminal: Nils Holgersson—the kid who flew on a giant white goose. I watched it growing up and even kinda look like him!
Mitch de Klein: Gyro Gearloose! I’ve always admired how inventive he was. I’d love to see what I could create as him for a week.

Q: If you could travel with a celebrity, who would it be?

Huminal: Michael Jordan. He was my childhood idol. His focus and mindset are unmatched—and I’d definitely challenge him to a one-on-one game.
Mitch de Klein: Fred Again. He always brings a portable studio setup while traveling—it’d be amazing to jam and learn from his creative process.

Q: What’s the most significant lesson life has taught you so far?

Huminal: “Success” is a bit of a mirage—it’s fleeting. The key is to enjoy the journey rather than fixating on the destination.
Mitch de Klein: Always be kind. You never know what someone’s going through, and kindness can change a person’s day instantly.

Q: How do you handle failure?

Huminal: I’m tough on myself at first, but I try to learn from it and move forward. Negative emotions can push you to improve.
Mitch de Klein: I try not to dwell on it. Every “failure” is really just a lesson to build on next time.
