When France scores at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, fans will be celebrating to the sound of one of the country’s most iconic musical exports.
The French national team has selected Daft Punk’s timeless anthem One More Time as its official goal song for the tournament, taking advantage of FIFA’s new rule allowing participating nations to choose their own music to be played after goals and other key moments during matches.
The choice made an immediate impact during France’s opening match against Senegal at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on June 16. The track echoed through the stadium three times during France’s victory, including after two goals from Kylian Mbappé. As soon as the familiar opening notes hit the speakers, thousands of supporters joined in, transforming the celebration into a massive singalong.
It’s hard to think of a more fitting song. Released in 2000 as the lead single from Daft Punk’s landmark album Discovery, One More Time has become one of the most recognizable dance records ever made. More than 25 years later, it remains a staple at festivals, sporting events, clubs and celebrations around the world. Its message of joy, unity and living in the moment feels perfectly suited to football’s biggest stage.
The selection also comes during a period of renewed interest in the legendary French duo. While Daft Punk officially ended their partnership in 2021, Thomas Bangalter has remained active creatively. Earlier this month, he released his new solo album Mirage and surprised fans with a pop-up DJ set in Brooklyn, marking his first performance in the United States in 17 years.
France isn’t the only country turning to a familiar classic for inspiration this summer. England has chosen Planet Funk’s Chase the Sun as its goal song, while Germany has gone with Peter Schilling’s synth-pop favorite Major Tom. The trend reflects how music has become an increasingly important part of a team’s identity, helping create memorable moments both on and off the pitch.
FIFA has also unveiled its official tournament anthem, DNA, a collaboration featuring David Guetta, Megan Thee Stallion, EJAE and Andrea Bocelli. But while the tournament has its own soundtrack, France may have found the song that resonates most with supporters.
After all, few records are as universally loved as One More Time. And if France makes a deep run in the tournament, fans around the world could be hearing it over and over again throughout the summer.
