Bruno Mars & The Super Bowl: Round 2

I guess once wasn’t enough, because it has just been announced that Bruno Mars has been asked to perform during the Super Bowl halftime show again this year.

Mars performed the first time at Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014 along with special guests Red Hot Chili Peppers. According to EW, this was the most-watched halftime show ever, until it was surpassed by Katy Perry’s performance last year (shout-out to Left Shark). However, Super Bowl 50 is looking for slightly different: in addition to performing, they asked Mars to curate the rest of the show, according to Billboard. This means that, more likely than not, we should expect to see a very impressive group joining Bruno up on stage. And hey, why not go all out? It’s the 50th anniversary!

For those who might think it odd to ask the same musician to play twice, Mars is not the first to come back for a round two (or three). Gloria Estefan sang in 1992, 1995, and 1999while Justin Timberlake and Nelly both performed in 2001 and 2004 (the latter being the year of the famous wardrobe malfunction).

No word yet on whether Mars will accept the offer, but we’re sure to find out soon.
