RIAA DEFEATS GROOVESHARK CLONE

A music trade group triumphed over a clone of the once popular (and illegal) site Grooveshark. The Grooveshark-clone jumped from domain to domain for weeks until a court order forced several ISP’s to block the rogue site. The court awarded the labels $13 million in damages, and another $4 million for ‘willful counterfeiting’ according to reports from TorrentFreak.

The Judgment Reads:

“Defendants have engaged in willful copyright infringement of Plaintiffs’ copyrights through the Counterfeit Service, which allows users to download and stream infringing copies of Plaintiffs’ copyrighted sound recordings directly from servers operated or controlled by Defendants, in violation of Plaintiffs’ copyrights.”
