American producers Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall, the duo that forms the EDM group ‘The Chainsmokers’ have been at the top of their game most of 2015-16. The duo scored a major hit earlier this year when they released their single “Don’t Let Me Down,” with vocalist Daya. This has been followed by “Closer” ft pop vocalist Halsey, another hit dominating radio and streaming charts.

In their latest move to further cement their position in the top tier, the LA-based duo battled it out against the likes of Major Lazer and Calvin Harris to clinch the Favourite Artist Award in the Electronic Dance Music category at the American Music Awards (AMAs).

A little rain in Los Angeles couldn’t stop the festivities at the downtown Microsoft Theatre as the American Music Awards got underway with hosts Jay Pharoah and Gigi Hadid. Midway, Ciara took the stage and joked, “For those of you over 60, EDM is not a medical condition. Electronic music dance music is incredibly addictive and what we’re celebrating in this category.” She then went on to present the AMA for Favorite Artist- Electronic Dance Music to The Chainsmokers who expressed surprise: “Holy shit, we’ve never won anything,” before thanking their longtime supporter, SONY’s Adam Alpert. The duo also thanked the AMAs for recognizing the EDM genre.
