Alesso Going Truly Global

Dance DJ and producer Alesso who is known for classics like “Years”, “Under Control”, “Heroes,” has become one of the biggest staple acts within the dance music industry. After his masive headlining performance at the Electric Daisy Carnival India, the Swedish DJ has indicated his willingness to work with Indian artists, and the growth of the dance music scene in India.

Speaking to the Business Standard, on his keeness to collaborate with Indian artistes, the music producer, who has collaborated with Chinese and Korean artists earlier said

“For me, it is a challenge to do more unexpected things in a way that it also makes sense. If I keep coming back here, I feel like, why wouldn’t I give it a go and try to collaborate with Indian artistes? I think people (listeners) also want unexpected things. (When we collaborate) It’s a completely different world they are from and I am from. And there’s a different kind of mind set to make music here in India. So, I definitely think there could be some possibility,”

On the growth of the dance industry in India, Alesso says there has been definite growth since the last time he visited India (2013) and he is optimistic it will continue – “It’s just drawing more and more every year. I think it’s growing and becoming bigger. I think the whole electronic culture has too much to be a phase. I think it’s here to stay, but evolve in different kind of ways”.

Alesso, who has been called “the next big thing in dance music” by singer Madonna, winds up saying “people in general are always going to want a fresh thing”, but all’s good as long as the “quality of music is good”.

As EDM in the US and UK has hit near saturation, emerging markets in China and India could be the next frontier in electronic music.
