THE TAKE 5 SERIES
Born in Philadelphia, Tommy Capretto is a U.S. based DJ and producer of house and techno. Capretto has released music with labels like Armada, Capitol Records, and Universal Music. You might recognize him from a previous interview we had with him at the Nexus Lounge in Amsterdam during ADE 2018.
His official remixes for Capitol Records include artists like Niall Horan and Dragonette. One of his most popular releases is “Trapped in a Bassline,” a collaboration with fellow DJ Richard Fraioli. He was cheekily inspired for the title of his track “Don’t Be A Dick” by an encounter he had with a rude person during MMW 2018.
Tommy Capretto’s latest release is “Sorry,” a single he collaborated with MIMO and Tanisha Avent to make. His upcoming EP, “Tysons Corner,” drops later this month. Don’t forget to check it out when it is released! Until then, read our take-5 interview with the artist below to learn more about him:
Before we dig in, tell us about your latest project.
My new ep “Tysons Corner” is pretty much an album I worked on following a breakup. Long story very short, I was dating a really great girl, I messed things up, and this album is basically a conviction of sorts. You know, the moment you actually think things completely through and you see that you really do have personal issues you needed to work on. I wanted to display the emotions from both sides. So all in all, this breakup/album really made me evaluate myself as a person. It’s definitely a different side of Tommy Capretto that my fans have not seen or heard, so I’m excited to see the reactions.
What cocktail is getting you through the pandemic?
Tequila and club soda will ALWAYS be my go-to drink haha
What is your first musical memory?
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.
What’s the most useless talent you have?
I’m actually a really good cook! But, it’s useless to me because I hardly have the time!
If you could know the absolute and total truth to one question, what question would you ask?
Definitely what came first, chicken or the egg haha I mean right?
You must survive in the Amazon Rainforest for a year. Which 3 DJs or industry friends would you take with you and why?
That’s tough. Definitely my manager Debra. She a tough woman so I won’t have to worry about any animals attacking us. (Haha) She’ll be my protector.
Which fictional character would be the most exciting to meet in real life?
Jason Bourne! Especially played by Jeremy Renner. Such an amazing actor!
Amsterdam, New York, or Tokyo?
Honestly, I love different things about Amsterdam and New York. I’ve never been to Tokyo yet! Some of my biggest following is in Amsterdam, but New York has my heart.
Do you sing in the shower?
Oh absolutely. Believe it or not I have a little time to me. Don’t be surprised when I lay some vocals in my next album.
And finally, what’s on your Netflix watch list?
I’ve been stuck binging this show, “Designated Survivor.” So much drama and action. Absolutely In love with it. It’s a routine these days. Shower. Studio. Home to watch it.
