THE TAKE 5 SERIES

Ummet Ozcan

Ummet Ozcan is a Dutch-Turkish DJ and record producer with releases with Spinnin’ Records and sublabels Doom Records and Reset Records. He has worked with the biggest names in the industry, including Armin van Buuren, Tiësto, and Hardwell. He has multiple collaborations with DJ brother duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, including singles “Beast (All as One),” “Melody,” and “The Hum”––all of which boast hundreds of millions of listens across streaming platforms.

His first musical and career success dates back to 2011, with single “Reboot” landing at #1 on Beatport. Two years later, his single “Revolution” achieved the same accomplishment.

Flash forward to present day and the self-described “sound geek” is still brimming with inspiration: his most recent release is “Wonderful Days” in December of 2020, a collaboration with fellow musicians Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo and Orange INC. He even promises fans more singles to come very soon!

The artist is a jack of all trades, as his social media includes videos of his martial arts kicks, combos, and skill. On top of that, he also develops synthesizer-related plugins for producers around the world to use.

Q: Before we dig in, tell us about your latest project.

Actually, I am working on the development of a new synth plugin. I am a sound geek and like to create new producers’ tools. It is quite time-consuming but once finished it will be a great new plug for the producer’s community.

Q: What’s keeping you sane during the pandemic?

Long walks in nature, decent and healthy food, and a lot of gym sessions. And a strong conviction that it will change for the better.

Q: What is the first album you ever owned?

That might be one of these crazy dance compilation albums from the 90’s, can’t remember the name though. But all the dance hits were on it and it was an absolute must-have these days.

Q: How do you know when you’ve found a perfect beat/track/song/lyrics?

I guess It’s just a feeling. If I like it it must be good;) At least for me… Most of the time that works out fine.

Q: What Is Something You Like To Do That Other person Would Probably Consider “Weird” If They Knew?

Oh well, I am quite a spiritual guy and to touch the ground I often walk barefoot in the garden or even during a walk in the forest. I can recommend it to everyone.. it keeps you earthed.

It would be so great to have Avicii back with us, it is such an incredible loss

Q: Do You Believe In The Paranormal And Would You Go Ghost Hunting?

Oh yes, there is definitely more than we can comprehend, I believe the universe is guiding us, not sure about ghosts though, I’m not much of a ghostbuster;)

Q: What Is The Most Hilarious Childhood Memory You Can Think Of?

There was a big snowball fight going at the schoolyard and I managed to throw a big one aiming at someone’s head, but couldn’t see who it actually was because I was facing his back. He turned around with a red hot face and to my shock, it was the school’s principal… Quite a story

Q: What’s The Number One Item You Would Save From Your Burning House?

I would definitely save my hard drives containing my music, old photo’s etc. They’re very dear to me.

Q: What Goals Do You Have For The Next Year?

More music, more software synthesizer plugin development, but all in a Covid free world!
