THE TAKE 5 SERIES
MOYA
We had a chat with singer and actress MOYA on latest projects, why they chose dance music, and their predictions for what the future will look like.
MOYA has an unusual background compared to other dance artists: alongside songwriting, she is also a Broadway actress and singer! Most recently, she played the leading role of Effie White in Dreamgirls, winning an award for Lead Actress in a Musical for her performance. She was the 2010 NAACP Theatre Award recipient for Lead Actress. In 2016, the multitalented star was a semi-finalist in America’s Got Talent, attracting millions of viewers to her performances.
Her latest release is single “Supa,” released earlier this month in collaboration with DJ duo Gold 88. This year, MOYA has already released a number of tracks, including “Laser Beams” with Moguai and Future Kings, “Something New,” and “Peace.” She tells us that she is “just getting warmed up,” so keep your ears out for what’s to come from this new artist!
To learn more about MOYA, including which movie they believed had the most memorable soundtrack, check out our interview with the artist below:
Q: Before we dig in, what's next for you? (current or future projects).
Honestly, I’m just getting warmed up. With the way of the world, strong future plans are not advised lol. Turning records into Hits is the only thing on my agenda.
Q: Why did you choose to make dance music?
Dance and House music has always been a part of me. Although it has its own lane, you can sing whatever you feel to the track. It gives such freedom and high. And it’s meant to be played loud which touches the soul.
Q: Let's create a new festival; What would you name it, Where would it be located, and Who would be the top 3 headliners?
Finally Festival! There would be 7 simultaneously on each continent. Headliners include a mix of Black Coffee, David Guetta, and a comeback of Daft Punk.
Q: What is music going to sound like 20 years from now?
There will be no instruments all artificial sounds. I’m not looking forward to it.
Q: What movie has a very memorable soundtrack?
Jurassic Park 😂
Q: If you could bring one artist back to life, who would it be? (Why that artist?)
Michael Jackson of course
Q: What if aliens invade our planet and they’re really hot?
I have been waiting on a blue boyfriend since avatar. I’m all about Bi-planet dating.
Q: If you could spend a day talking to an animal, what animal would you choose and what would you want to learn from them?
An Elephant. They seem wise beyond years. I’d learn so much as they don’t forget anything. They would know stories of the beginning of time.
Q: What do you think the world will look like in 300 years?
The way we are going there will not be one. We will all have moved to Mars.
Q: Who would win a fight between Spiderman and Batman (and why?)
Spider-Man’s skills come from within Batman got that money. Money makes the world go round.
