Take5 With “I Just Wanna Know” DJ And Producer MOVADA

THE TAKE 5 SERIES

MOVADA

Little is known about this rising star so far, but the London-based DJ and Producer, MOVADA, has leveled up his skills, co-writing and producing songs with other musicians such as Matoma and The Vamps. He has also remixed the artists MØ, Martin Solveig, The Him, and Kodaline. After having his music played on BBC 1Xtra’s DJ Target, Kiss FM’s Ricky & Melvin, and Billy Da Kid, he launched his new artist project under the name of MOVADA.
Following up on the KISS FM-supported’ Stay,’ which has had just under three million streams, he brings the freshest house sounds to the airwaves and speakers for that dose of Vitamin D. Fresh for 2021 and collaborating with Arieleno on the irresistible ‘I Just Wanna Know.’ Emotional finger snaps are projected atop deep piano chords, subsequently punctuated by feel-good washes of house-led synths, bringing an essence of early-noughties R&B and modern dance to the party. This song surely bursts of Summer-reminiscent house as the seductive, soulful topline adds a depth of warmth and sensitivity.
MOVADA’s sense of humor shone through when he answered our interview questions. When asked what his weirdest habit as a child was, “I used to blow bubbles with my spit, ha! I could also cross all my toes.” He won this round. Listen to our full, exclusive Nexus Radio Take5 interview below to learn more about MOVADA, including why he chose dance music. And don’t forget to check out his collaboration with Arieleno, ‘I Just Wanna Know,’ which was released last October!

Q: Before we dig in, What's next for you?

I have significant collaboration with VINAI, a DJ duo from Italy, and another collab with singer/songwriter Mokita. I’m constantly working on new sounds and have a whole library of songs ready to go!

Q: Why did you choose to make dance music?

I love how expansive it is. You can mix elements of most genres and turn them into a dance record; I also really like how dance music is forever evolving with new sounds.

Q: How important are lyrics to you?

Very. I’m all about thought-provoking and reminiscing. I love lyrics that take you back and trigger good times in your life. For example, anytime I listen to Frank Ocean, ‘Self Control’ takes me back to a weekend I spent with someone special. The lyrics are so powerful, and it makes me smile and remind me of that time anytime I hear it.

Q: What do you think of Robots making music? Robots making music?

Narrrr, I think that’s a step too far! We aren’t making cars; this is music!

Q: What's something everyone should experience at least once in their life?

Ibiza. It’s such a fantastic place, with lots of different music, a true melting pot of genres, and a great vibe. That and pizza dipped in apple sauce. You can thank me later!

Q: Do you ever sing while taking a shower or having a bath? Why is this popular? Do you sing in tune or do something a little different?

Of course, and anyone who says they don’t is lying! Whilst it’s a great time to think about different melodies and lyrics, it’s also a great place to forget everything and let loose. Karyn White, ‘Superwoman’ is the one I love to belt out ha!

Q: What was the weirdest habit you had as a child?

I used to blow bubbles with my spit, ha! I could also cross all my toes. 😳

Q: What invention would advance humanity the most if you could go back in time and inspire someone to make a present-day invention?

Shazam. I love the concept. There are so many great songs out there – from the 60s, 70s, and especially the 80s- Shazam would’ve been great when hearing a song on the radio or TV back then!

Q: Can You Dream Of Having A Dream? Tell us about your dreams!

My dreams consist of running away from robots! 🤣

Q: What double standards are ridiculous and need to be ended?

Female artists are expected to be the perfect role models, while male artists can sing as explicitly as they want without expecting to censor themselves for younger generations.
