THE TAKE 5 SERIES
FTampa
Crafting, refining, and perfecting! That’s how Brazilian DJ FTampa has improved his skills as an electronic music producer since 2011, heavily influenced by a wide selection of music growing up. Life-changing challenges molded his path to global prominence, but FTampa is now one of the artists taking Brazilian EDM to new heights. He is known as one of the pioneers of the Brazilian EDM sound and is a testament to how music can be a powerful driving force for creativity and emotion!
Felipe Augusto Ramos is his real name. Because of his diminutive stature, the DJ took the name “Tampa,” meaning “short,” in Portuguese. Despite this, Ftampa has big dreams! One line, “A new star is born in Brazil,” and the other, “Brazilian DJ going global,” perfectly sums him up. He has gone on to curate an impressive back-catalog of original and remixed material – with star-studded remixes for Britney Spears and, more recently, P!nk in his repertoire. He has also piqued the interest of game developers, who have licensed several of his originals for Playstation and Xbox games. On top of this, he was the first Brazilian to perform at the world’s leading electronic festival, Tomorrowland, marking a significant turn in his emerging career.
Supported by Hardwell, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Tiesto, R3hab, Ummet Ozcan, Quintino, and many more, his music smashes large crowds worldwide.
Are you curious to learn more about Ftampa? Perhaps you’re wondering why he chose dance music or what his oddest childhood habit was. If yes, then stick around with our Take5 for that and more!
Q: Before we dig in, what's next for you?
After five years in Los Angeles, I moved back to Brazil, and I’m focusing on getting back to club music instead of only pop. I made about ten songs this year, and by 2022 I want to release as much music as possible.
Q: Why did you choose to make dance music?
I had bands for my whole life before dance, and the biggest reason is that I was tired of discussing with band members about everything, hahaha. So then I decided to make something I could do by myself, and here I am!
Q: How important are lyrics?
Too important to me. It was easy to make people feel the song only with melodies, but today, everything is so fast, and if you don’t have lyrics to express what you wanna say, people don’t pay attention. So we really wanna talk about Sugar Babies on this new song, and we write the lyrics while having fun in the studio and cheering.
Q: What do you think of Robots making music?
I think there will always be a place for all kinds of music. I remember when I started, it was almost impossible to find something online, and look now, there are a bunch of plugins that make the whole thing for you, and it gets better with every version. I’m a musician, and I believe my music is to show people my thoughts, and the only way to make it is using your heart.
Q: What's something everyone should experience at least once in their life?
Sex. I’m kidding, hahaha. I think everyone should experience happiness and be proud of their lives… Life is short guys, do what you love!

Q: Do you ever sing while taking a shower or having a bath? Why is this popular? Do you sing in tune?
I’m the best singer globally, and I don’t sing in all my songs because I don’t want singers to feel bad. – Says Ed Sheeran. Hahaha, jokes aside, I’m a terrible singer, but I do sing in the shower… Most of my vocal melodies I do in the shower and also lyrics. Life was good to me, and I learned to play the piano well so I can show the singers what I need’em to do instead of trying to show with my voice, hahaha
Q: What was the weirdest habit you had as a child?
That’s a good one. Every time I touched something, I had to sniff my hand. I had this habit for ages, but I’m ok now, hahaha.
Q: What invention would advance humanity the most if you could go back in time and inspire someone to make a present-day invention?
I don’t think I would help to invent something. I would throw all the smartphone plans away. Isn’t it terrible to sit with people, and they all are on the phone? I know you wanna say this! Come on.
Q: Can You Dream Of Having A Dream?
I was talking to my manager about this. I had his crazy dream for so long that now I can control it, and I’m like, “it’s just a dream” inside my dream. Is this too much “Inception”? Thanks, Leo, for showing me that it is possible.
Q: What double standard is ridiculous and needs to be ended?
I think people have to accept everyone doesn’t matter what they do. You own your life! Live it the way you want! Love ya all!
