The 1998 R&B single “Share The Love” by Andrea Martin is an excellent ode to love in the arms of a cheater. She begins with a depressing thought: “Happiness seems to be loneliness, and loneliness killed my world / How could you guess, when you’re only thinking of yourself, and how you look to other girls?” Martin’s song traces her growth into the feeling, but the German DJ Tomcraft heard something extraordinary in those verses.
Hence, the song “Loneliness” was created, and we will take a trip down memory lane to listen to it again.
Thomas Bruckner, better known by his stage name Tomcraft, has proven himself as one of Europe’s most prominent chart-toppers in the Tech-House genre. The Munich-born DJ, who has been touring the world since the early 1990s, is famous for creating his signature sound in the studio with his brilliant partner Eniac.
The somewhat catchy techno song “Loneliness” catapulted him commercially. Tomcraft and Eniac were responsible for the production, while Ivan Matias, Andrea Martin, Thomas Bruckner, and Eniac wrote the script. The German single release “Loneliness” happened in 2002, and on April 28, 2003, it came out in the UK. The single reached number 10 in Germany and led the charts in the United Kingdom in May 2003.
Tomcraft said that the song’s title was “Loneliness,” even though it seemed to be similar to happiness: “The lyrics say that happiness seems to be loneliness and loneliness killed my world. It doesn’t really make much sense to me either, but I prefer it because of that. I like the idea that it is a bit crazy; it’s just that kind of record.”
After his first big hit, Tomcraft and Eniac split up due to creative differences, and Tomcraft went on to establish himself as a leading figure in underground music by releasing an album and signing artists like Coburn, Lutzenkirchen, The Egg, Oliver Koletzki, and Ramon Tapia.
Not only did Tomcraft become famous as the creator of multiple chart-topping singles, but he has also been in high demand as a Top DJ globally ever since 1993.
This has been repeatedly demonstrated by his performances at such prestigious German venues as MAYDAY, LOVE PARADE, ENERGY, and NATURE ONE, as well as his devoted fan base in the United States (New York, Miami, San Francisco, etc.), Colombia, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and throughout Europe, from Istanbul to Estonia, and his regular appearances at such prestigious UK clubs as THE GALLERY, GODSKITCHEN, TANGLED, or PROMISE.
If “Share Your Love” was an electronic sound, “Loneliness” would be a dance-floor style as powerful as ever. Instead, parts of “Loneliness”‘ build sound very much like Zombie Nation’s excellent 2001 smash “Kernkraft 400,” but for whatever reason, this song reached a higher peak than others that had been chart regulars for a while.
That sensation of broken, bewildered dread may be more emotionally gripping. But, whatever the reason, the all-time classic “Loneliness” represents a Techno music experience that will never be forgotten.
