Rising DJ Alan Aguero stopped by Greats Brooklyn Pop-Up Space at the Nexus Lounge Miami to reflect on his career goals. The producer from Toronto, Canada, works on Afrobeat projects and collaborates with Latin artists.
“It’s a lot of stuff. Like I am just overwhelmed with work. I wish there were three of me because there is so much work. It’s insane,” he says. Alan is very interested in the fashion world and prefers a cleaner style with varied options.
On Instagram, Alan creates dozens of reels remixing music. When asked about his definition of success, the artist said he values freedom.
“Success to me is waking up every morning, doing what you love, and being happy. That’s what it is. I think being able to have the freedom to just wake up every day. It’s incredible. I love it; I do it. This is my life. This is what I do, and I feel successful.”

The electronic music market has gained a talent boom with the rise of viral TikTok artists in the past few years. The platform has opened doors for anyone to be launched into stardom. But, reflecting on the industry, Alan said that caution is needed.
“You have to have thick skin. There are a lot of people you will run into that are idiots. I mean, you’ve got to know how to play the game. It’s a business at the end of the day. So it’s a dog-eat-dog world, you know?” he advises.
Just like he loves working with what he likes, the DJ emphasizes the importance of taking risks and avoiding regrets, whether in his career or personal life.
“I’m addicted to taking risks. And I think regret is just something that... I lose sleep over it because I never want to be that person. I hear it from so many people: ‘I wish I did this. I wish I had been there when I was younger. I wish I had taken that opportunity. Just do it. [I know] it’s scary.”
For 2023, Alan aims to release good music projects and be seen as a reference for the audience to discover new artists. “I want to promote good music. That’s been my goal for this year. Last year, I focused on building a brand where I could promote good music, known artists, and unknown artists. I want to be that platform where people say: ‘Oh, I discovered this artist because of Alan Aguero.’ I want to be that ‘next step’”.
