Amsterdam Turns 750 with a Highway Rave to Remember

On June 21st, Amsterdam celebrated its 750th anniversary in unforgettable style—with a nine-hour rave on one of its busiest highways. In a striking display of urban reinvention, Audio Obscura transformed the A10 Zuid into a pulsing dancefloor as part of Festival op de Ring, a city-wide tribute that temporarily closed 15 kilometers of highway for music, movement, and community connection.

Thousands of revelers descended on the stretch near entrance S109, where the rave unfolded under bright skies and the rhythm of Amsterdam’s ever-evolving cultural heartbeat. Despite the last-minute cancellation of a highly anticipated back-to-back set between Armin and Benwal due to safety concerns, the event maintained momentum with a genre-spanning lineup and seamless flow from morning into nightfall.

Kicking off the day were Michel de Hey and M-High in a sunrise B2B set that set the tone for what was to come. Locklead and Saidah followed, weaving a groove-heavy blend of house and techno. As the sun climbed higher, Joris Voorn and Benny Rodrigues delivered a standout early evening performance that electrified the crowd and marked one of the event’s most commanding moments.

Later in the night, Young Marco and Kyra Khaldi raised the tempo before TLM Airlines brought the rave to a powerful close, performing against a glowing sunset and city skyline.

Known for its history of curating iconic events in unconventional locations—from the Rijksmuseum’s bicycle tunnel to Amsterdam Central Station—Audio Obscura once again demonstrated its visionary approach to public space. Free tickets vanished quickly, a testament to the city’s hunger for bold cultural expression and collective joy.

As Amsterdam honors 750 years of history, the A10 highway rave wasn’t just a celebration of its rich past—it was a high-voltage signal of its creative, inclusive future.
