10 Questions with “I’ll Be There” Artist Thoby

THE TAKE 5 SERIES

Thoby

We sat down with Thoby to chat on the latest projects, dance music, the future of music, and much more.
Thoby is a 22-year-old Danish DJ and producer who’s already made his way into the major leagues: he is currently signed to Prime Bookings, his native Denmark’s leading agency for electronic music. When he’s not in the studio releasing music, he’s behind the DJ booth—Thoby has played a sold-out headline show at Rumors, one of the biggest clubs in capital city Copenhagen.
Just getting started, this up-and-coming artist is one to look out for and already has a few hits to boast. His single “Purge,” in collaboration with Iceyys, has over 600,000 streams on Spotify.
His latest release is the single “I’ll Be There,” released earlier this month. This single follows his first single of 2021, “Baby U,” released with Radikal Records.
To learn more about Thoby, including who he thinks will win in a fight between Batman and Spiderman, check out our interview with the artist below:

Q: Before we dig in, what's next for you? (current or future projects)

First of all, thank you for having me. Right now, I’m working on a lot of new music, and I just signed my next single, which is a collab with an artist I’ve always wanted to work with, and the label we signed it to is a label I’ve wanted to release for a long time. And besides that, I’m playing more & more shows now that Denmark has removed all corona restrictions.

Q: Why did you choose to make dance music?

I’ve always wanted to work with music ever since I was a kid. I wanted to be a singer at first because I love to sing and am also good at it. Still, in 2015 I heard a song called “Himalaya” by the Danish producer MORTEN, the sounds he used in that track blew my mind because I never heard music that could sound like that before, so I said to myself,, “I wanna make something like that!”

Q: Let's create a new festival; What would you name it, Where would it be located, and Who would be the top 3 headliners?

I think my headliners would be MORTEN, Timmy Trumpet & Yellow Claw. The festival should be near some unique surroundings like mountains or something because it would be dope to see mountains in the back of the stage or all around you.

Then we could call it “Hannah Mountainia”, haha, just kidding. I’m so bad at names, so I don’t know what to call it.

Q: What is music going to sound like 20 years from now?

I don’t know that because music constantly changes, so a lot can happen in 20 years.

Q: What movie has a very memorable soundtrack?

I love the movie called “The Greatest Showman,” and I think all the songs in the film are so good!

10 Questions I’ll Be There Artist Thoby

Q: If you could bring one artist back to life, who would it be?

That’s hard because I have a few, but I think I would bring Avicii back. The things he did were so unbelievable, and it was something only he could do. He was a huge inspiration.

Q: What if aliens invade our planet, and they're really hot?

I would surrender immediately haha. I love this question.

Q: If you could spend a day talking to an animal, what animal would you choose and what would you want to learn from them?

I would choose a monkey, and It would be fun to learn how to peel bananas with my feet; imagine what a cool party trick would be.

Q: What do you think the world will look like in 300 years?

This question made me think because all over the news, we are hearing about how the world is ending not far from now and all that, but we are doing more, and more so maybe the planet won’t be so bad in 300 years? Or maybe the hot aliens are helping us out with the planet haha.

Q: Who would win a fight between Spiderman and Batman?

Spiderman has his webs and strength, but Batman has always been able to win his fights no matter who it is against.
