Armin Van Buuren Reveals GAIA Album On The Way

Calling all trance purists! Recent Armin van Buuren releases have consisted of what more tenured trance fans might write off as “trouse,” (combination of trance and house) over more of “pure trance” he produced the first two decades when he started. van Buuren has now revealed that he will be releasing a new album under his trance side project Gaia with Benno de Goeij of Rank 1.

To the uninitiated, Gaia is the personification of Earth in Greek mythology, one of the first beings of existence and mother of the universe. Listeners of electronic music might be more familiar with Gaia as Armin van Buuren’s alter ego, where he has often collaborated with Rank 1’s Benno De Goeij in creating truly atmospheric trance music. Gaia made a splash in 2014 with their Ultra Music Festival debut, which saw the duo deliver a celebrated set for trance purists, while performing in ominous hooded robes. The duo had previously revisited the project earlier in the year with “Inyathi,” but have been relatively quiet on the release front.

During his recent Q&A on Facebook from Creamfields, Armin confirmed that he’s working on a new album under his GAIA alias. This news will definitely come as a pleasant surprise for a number of van Buuren fans and Trance purists, who haven’t been really pleased with the direction his sound has taken of late, moving more towards big room. The expectations are going to be sky high for this one.

Armin van Buuren has yet to reveal a title, release date or tracklist for his and Benno de Goeij’s debut album as Gaia.
