The ranking that dubs their 25 the “most influential” people in the music biz was determined through “No. 1 hits, volume and growth of streams and shares, and viral chart success from the last year.”
And Consequence of Sound tells us that with “Wake Me Up” being “Spotify’s most streamed song ever with over 234 million listens” it’s no wonder he won the spot.
USA Today also says that the hitmaker’s song is the most streamed track in history.
And if that’s not enough to convince you he’s doing well enough to be #1 on the list, Avicii was also “the first artist under 25 to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify.”
The official Spotify list has an expert insight that says
“At 24, Avicii has broken almost as many records as he’s spun. The Swedish DJ is Spotify’s first artist under 25 to cross the one billion streams threshold, and is unforgettable breakout song Wake Me Up is our most played track, with more than 240 million streams globally.”
After hearing the news Avicii proudly, but humbly, said “This has been such an incredible year, and taking the top spot on Spotify’s 25 under 25, just a few months before my 25th birthday, is unbelievable.”
He then thanked his fans for their support stating “I truly love what I do and I’m so grateful to my fans and to Spotify for being such enthusiastic supporters of my music.”
