The Chainsmokers’ Biggest Hit ‘Closer’ Dethroned

After spending twelve weeks at the top of Billboard’s Hot 100, The Chainsmokers‘ smash hit “Closer” with Halsey has finally lost its numero uno status on the charts. Originally released back in July, the song was catapulted to the number one spot in August where it held an impressive dominance of the charts until now, thanks to a certain viral video.

Hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd have come out of almost nowhere to steal the spotlight from The Chainsmokers by making it all the way to the top of the Hot 100 with their viral hit “Black Beatles,” which this week gives them and featured rapper Gucci Mane their first No. 1 hits. The viral hit “Black Beatles” was #9 week last on the charts.

The song ‘Closer’ was in control for 12 weeks in a row, making it one of the longest-running chart-toppers of all time, so it’s not too sad to see the EDM/pop tune finally begin to work its way down the ranking. The track has only slipped a single rung, and it is more than likely going to remain within the top 10 for weeks and weeks to come, because it’s still an incredibly popular track and songs as popular as “Closer” don’t often disappear immediately after their reign on top has ended.
