Who convinced Calvin Harris to Sing on ‘My Way’?

Back in 2010, said he was going to stop singing, in order to focus on producing and DJing instead. “Zero percent of my time will go on singing”, he said. And then in 2012, he releases ‘Feel So Close’, which featured him singing. And in 2014, he released ‘Summer’, which also featured him singing. And last week he released ‘My Way’, and, yes, you guessed it right; the new single from also features his very own voice. What is it that makes the Scottish record producer, DJ, songwriter, and singer go back on his words?

In an with Zane Lowe on Beats 1, Harris revealed “I’m trying to work hard to do it more because also, in tandem with that, there’s a lot of DJ producers and I look at myself and I think, ‘what do I have to offer that they don’t?’”

Thinking of his vocals though, he admitted “[There’s] only so far you can go with a voice like mine, and there’s a limit to the range,”.

But in walks in multi-platinum-selling, Midas-touch-possessing and songwriting genius “Happy” Pharrell with his advice for aspiring Harris.

Harris reminisces “Pharrell told me about hitting the notes. Occasionally people try to persuade me to sing again, and he’s one of those people. He said some of the most memorable and character voices that we have – including himself – it’s not about hitting the notes. It’s about getting the emotion and the feeling and the character across”.
