Just in case you’ve been entirely cut off from the internet until this moment and haven’t heard the sad news, the world is less one spaceman: David Bowie died on January 10th after an 18 month struggle with cancer.  He passed away only two days after both his 69th birthday and the release of his last album “Blackstar.”

An inspiration to many people who felt, for whatever reason, that they were outsiders, Bowie’s electrifying performances and refusal to conform to the norm not only significantly contributed to pop music, but also gave people who felt different a voice in the mainstream media. And it seems many musicians feel the same, as tributes to Ziggy Stardust pour forth from the internet from around the world.

Madonna covered Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel” while on her Rebel Heart tour in Houston. “I’m privileged and blessed to be able to do what I do,” she says. “But I want to pay tribute to a man who inspired my career. If you haven’t heard about David Bowie, then look him up motherf***ers. He was one of the geniuses in the music industry, one of the greatest singers and songwriters of the 20th century, and he changed my life…. He showed me that it was okay to be different.”

Adam Lambert paid tribute from all the way across the world in Nagoya, Japan, covering “Let’s Dance.” “We have to celebrate our heroes,” he tells the crowd. “Tonight, let’s celebrate the great David Bowie.”
