Depeche Mode have announced their upcoming live album and concert film, M: Memento Mori – Mexico City, arriving on December 5. Captured during the band’s sold-out 2023 performances at Foro Sol Stadium, the release offers both a full live recording and a cinematic reflection on the group’s enduring bond with their fans.
Directed by Fernando Frías, the film—simply titled M—pairs sweeping concert visuals with a poetic narrative delving into Mexico’s spiritual connection to death and rebirth, a theme deeply rooted in Depeche Mode’s 2023 studio album Memento Mori. The result is not only a document of the band’s triumphant world tour, but also a meditation on how their music continues to intertwine with global ideas of faith, loss, and transcendence.
Before its official home release, M will premiere in cinemas worldwide on October 28, giving fans an early chance to experience the performance in immersive surround sound. The physical editions—available as CD/DVD and CD/Blu-ray packages—will arrive in December, each featuring behind-the-scenes footage and bonus material curated for collectors.
Complementing the film, Depeche Mode will issue a standalone live album edition, available as a 2×CD and 4×LP vinyl set. It features the complete Mexico City setlist along with four previously unreleased tracks from the Memento Mori sessions. Among them is “In The End,” set to debut as a single on October 24, offering fans a final glimpse into the creative orbit of the Memento Mori era.
In a statement, the band described the project as “a tribute to our fans and a celebration of the spirit that keeps Depeche Mode alive.” The Mexico City concerts—each drawing more than 65,000 attendees—were among the most emotionally charged moments of the tour, with the audience’s fervor turning the stadium into a cathedral of synths and voices.
The announcement arrives amid renewed attention to Depeche Mode’s influence on contemporary electronic music. Earlier this month, Paul Kalkbrenner released “Dreaming,” a single that samples the band’s 2000 track “Dreamer.” The officially licensed sample marks a rare crossover between generations of electronic artists, underscoring the band’s timeless resonance in dance and pop culture alike.
With M: Memento Mori – Mexico City, Depeche Mode close the chapter on one of their most personal and spiritually charged eras—capturing not only the power of their live show, but the connection between life, loss, and the music that endures between them.
