There’s a first time for everything, including a twosome taking top honors in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs Poll. Belgian brothers Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike won the coveted #1 spot in the annual poll. It’s also the first time a Belgian DJ has taken the top honors.
“It really hasn’t properly sunk in yet,” they told DJ Mag of the honor in their first official interview. “We just can’t believe it.”
The duo put in a lot of work, touring festivals such as Tomorrowland, EDC Las Vegas, Miami’s Ultra Music Festival, Creamfields, and Mysteryland this year. “Since day one we’ve put every bit of energy and time we can into our music and our shows in order to give the fans the greatest experience any DJ could offer,” they commented, according to Music Week. “So it’s such an incredible honor to receive this award knowing it’s from the guys that matter most to us.”
Billboard reports that “the pair said they were ‘speechless’ with the win and they’ve provided their fans with an update on their forthcoming artist album.” Dimitri Vegas added, “For us, the album is the biggest priority. We’ve been working on it for years…we want it to be perfect, and we’re both pretty difficult guys. We want to do something different…we really want to do something that’s going to be memorable. There’s still a lot of work to do but I think it’s shaping up really well.”
According to EW, “Last year’s winner Hardwell dropped down to the No. 2 spot, with Martin Garrix, Armin Van Buuren, and Tiesto rounding out the top 5. Skrillex finds his spot on the list at No. 9, while Steve Aoki took No. 10 and Calvin Harris came in at No. 11.”
