Dutch DJ Reinier Zonneveld Attempts DJing World Record

Suppose there’s one unmissable and “must-attend” event on this summer’s techno and EDM festival calendar. In that case, it just might be Dutch DJ Reinier Zonneveld’s upcoming inaugural Karren Maar Festival, where the DJ will attempt to beat the Record for the World’s Longest Live DJ Set, without the use of pre-made tracks.

You may know Reinier Zonneveld from his illustrious career as an upper-echelon electronic music producer, which collaborations with legends Oliver Koletzki, Richie Hawtin, and Moby have signposted. Alternatively, you may have encountered him while searching for the best and brightest of acid house, Reinier’s favored musical genre. Regardless of how exactly you first heard of the Dutch producer, this upcoming World Record attempt on August 5th at the historic Stadsblokken in Arnhem is sure to further solidify this artist as a force to be reckoned with in the world of electronic dance music.

At just thirty-two years old, Reinier has already established himself as a significant presence on the techno stage, regularly playing some of the most sought-after and popular stages and festivals worldwide.

Introduced to music at three years old, Reinier first explored melody and rhythm through his classical piano lessons, which equipped him with a solid theoretical and practical foundation. Later on in his childhood, he would take on composing classical music, foreshadowing the electronic music he would release in his adult years.

Reinier was first introduced to techno and electronic music while attending illegal raves at his university. The DJ holds two master’s degrees (in subjects unrelated to music), which is impressive enough, but he also taught himself music production during his time in higher education. Having developed his musical voice, Reinier quickly found an audience with his acid house tracks that showcase a true mastery of musical theory, offering ravers an irresistible combination of beautiful melody and electrifying dance beats.

A recent project of Reinier’s is his record label , founded in 2017, which will play a significant role in the upcoming performances at the Karren Maar Festival. The label gives Reinier the control necessary to plan and execute performances and productions like this summer’s World Record attempt.

The current Record for the World’s Longest DJ Set is held by Nigeria’s DJ Obi, who performed for a staggering 230-hour set at the Sao Café Lagos, taking minimal breaks to sleep.  Reinier Zonneveld is taking it one step further- by composing his music right on the spot, without the use of pre-made tracks.  There’s no denying that Reinier Zonneveld certainly has a tough challenge ahead of him, but the determination and dedication shown by the DJ thus far in his career point toward the positive.

Tickets are still available via the DJ’s website for the Karren Maar Festival, which features artwork designed by legendary artist Bran Reijinders. The DJ’s set is purported to include a variety of well-known classics, as well as several unreleased tracks and, of course, tons of improvisations.
