Sorry New York. Insomciac, the organizer for EDC has announced the cancellation of its New York festival in 2017. Pasquale Rotella, founder and CEO of Insomniac Events that hosts EDC internationally, revealed the news. The festival launched their New York edition in 2012.
In an official statement made on the Insomniac website, Rotella said,
“Although EDC New York 2016 was one of my favourites hosted in the Big Apple, we’ve decided to take a break in 2017.”
In the same message, Rotella encouraged fans to attend the flagship Vegas festival instead, which is half a continent away. “We hope many of you East Coast Headliners will join us in Vegas. We’ll have an art car sound system paying homage to New York DJs past and present.” That sounds like a stretch, though die-hard fans of the EDC festival will definitely hop on a flight. And though he called it “a break,” for EDC New York, he did not specify when the festival might return, if at all.
EDC New York has enjoyed a five-year run in and around New York City. It started at Metlife Stadium, before switching to Citi Field for one year, went back to Metlife and then back to Citi Field in 2016. The constant movement and strain to fit into the schedules of these large venues could have impacted their decision.
Earlier this week, Tomorrowland Brazil 2017 got cancelled owing to the host country’s continuing recession, but is promised to return in 2018.
