ADE 2020 EDITION

A regular entry into DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs poll since 2015, Yves V is a Belgian DJ and producer who paved the way into the international club scene for many Belgian musicians. He is best known for “We Got That Cool,” a single released last year featuring Afrojack and Icona Pop. The song peaked at number four on the Billboard’s Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart.

His success as a musician can be traced back over a decade. In 2007, he became the first Belgian artist to climb the mainstage of Tomorrowland, a festival for which he is a resident DJ. In 2009, he released track “Insane Pressure,” one of his very first tracks to gain worldwide recognition.
His reach extends far and wide: Yves V has released music with many of the best record labels, including Armada, Dirty Dutch, Spinnin’ Records, Doom Records, and Smash the House. TomorrowWorld, Sensation, and Mysteryland are just a few of the many festivals Yves V has rocked the deck in.
Yves V’s latest track is “High Like This,” a collaboration with German producer FR!ES. Earlier this year, he released “Not So Bad,” featuring singer Emie.
To learn more about Yves V, including what he’s watching on Netflix currently, check out our interview with him below:

Q; Before we dig in, tell us about your latest project.

Thanks for having me guys! I just released my latest track on Spinnin’ with super cool German producer FR!ES called ‘High Like This’ – it’s a deeper track than what fans typically associate with me but it still has an energy that we’ve branded “Slap House”! I was also super honored to be asked to remix Robin Schulz’s ‘Alane’ last month, it’s a really positive, feel-good release that I wanted to add my ”Yves V” spin on it with the slight tribal samples on the original and inject it with my upbeat, pumping edit! I hope you enjoy, more new music coming soon!

Q; What cocktail (or drink) recipe is getting you through the pandemic?

I like a good wine to unwind with!

Q; What is your first musical memory?

I remember being aware of dance music from a really early age, coming from Belgium it’s an integral part of our culture but I think my earliest memory would be listening to my family play rock music – Guns N Roses, things like that.

Q: What’s the most useless talent you have?

Can a talent be useless? I can’t juggle or anything haha, but in terms of talents, I like to think I’m a good cook!

Q; If you could know the absolute and total truth to one question, what question would you ask?

Are aliens real?

Q: You must survive in the Amazon Rainforest for a year. Which 3 DJs or industry friends would you take with you and why?

I would take my Tomorrowland brothers Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike because we’ve been friends for years – they work ridiculously hard but they also know how to play hard, so we’d keep each other in good company! I’d also invite Afrojack if he wanted to come – he’s also hilarious and keeps a healthy lifestyle so we’d for sure all have a great, fun rapport with each other – ever since our track ‘We Got That Cool’ with Icona Pop, we’ve been saying we need to link up again – time will tell but that is another project I’m super proud of. If you’re not familiar you might also spot it on the new FIFA 21 Soundtrack

Q: Which fictional character would be the most exciting to meet in real life?

Iron Man!

Q: Amsterdam, New York, or Tokyo?

I love Amsterdam because it’s such a fun part of Europe and not too far from home but I think I would have to pick Tokyo – it really feels like stepping into another world and I’ve been lucky enough to play a number of festivals and events in that part of the world including S20 and my own solo show dates. I can’t wait til we can all be able to safely travel again soon!

Q: Do you sing in the shower?

Yes, but it is usually what is on the radio at the time!

Q: And finally, what’s on your Netflix watch list?

I’ve been watching Belgian series Over Water and Undercover and I’ve also been watching The Mandalorian from Star Wars!
