Jack Emery Opens Up About ‘Running,’ Creative Inspiration, and Why Failure Can Be a Good Thing

THE Level 7 SERIES

Few artists have been building momentum in the melodic house and techno world quite like Jack Emery.

Known for blending deep basslines, cinematic melodies, and emotionally charged vocals, Emery has become a familiar name on Nora En Pure’s Purified Records roster. Over the past few years, he’s earned support from some of the scene’s biggest names while performing at major venues across the United States, including Mission Ballroom, Belly Up Aspen, 1015 Folsom, and several Purified events.

Now, he’s back with his latest release, “Running,” a collaboration with UK singer-songwriter MØØNE that showcases everything fans have come to love about his sound.

The track began with a simple idea: creating something that could work both on the dancefloor and as an emotional listening experience. Emery had long admired MØØNE’s vocals and immediately felt she would be the perfect fit for the record.

“I sent MØØNE the instrumental idea I had since I’ve always been a big fan of her powerful vocals,” Emery explains. “I was super excited about the potential when she sent back her awesome vocal and got to work finalizing the track soon after.”

The result is a soaring melodic house anthem that combines driving rhythms with heartfelt songwriting. It’s another strong addition to Emery’s growing catalog and a release that feels perfectly at home on Purified Records.

For MØØNE, the collaboration adds another notable project to an already impressive résumé. The UK vocalist has amassed more than 20 million Spotify streams and has worked with artists including Yotto, Le Youth, OCULA, Zac Samuel, and Tom Ferry. Her ability to deliver vulnerable, emotionally resonant performances makes her a natural match for Emery’s cinematic production style.

While Emery’s music is often associated with melodic house and techno, his influences stretch far beyond electronic music. In fact, some of his favorite creative sparks come from the most unexpected places.

"I get inspiration from any and all genres," he says. "Sometimes I've heard certain rock or country songs in cafés or in the car that inspire me. It could be an '80s clap that catches my attention or a certain chord progression. I think it's important not to get stuck only listening to one genre."

That open-minded approach has helped shape a sound that feels fresh while remaining true to the melodic roots that first attracted listeners to his music.

When inspiration strikes, Emery wastes little time. Rather than overthinking ideas, he prefers to get them down as quickly as possible.

"Usually I get an idea that pops into my head and I get into the studio as quickly as I can to lay the main idea down," he says. "Then I start with the melody and chord progression before moving into drums and arrangement."

Despite the growing recognition, Emery remains grounded by a philosophy that focuses on patience and perspective. Having experienced both highs and setbacks throughout his career, he’s learned that success isn’t always a straight line.

"Failure is something we have to accept and learn from," Emery explains. "I try to look at those moments as experiences that make me stronger and help me succeed in the future."

With “Running” now out on Purified Records and his profile continuing to rise, Jack Emery is proving that steady growth, creative curiosity, and staying true to your vision can go a long way.
