On Monday, Kaskade published a Tumblr post about what he believes will happen if music is given to fans for free, aptly titled “Free the Music and the Creativity Will Flow.” A few weeks ago, he released the stems from his song “Ain’t Gotta Lie” completely free of charge for fans to use. In the post, he clarified that he expects his fans to use these stems in their own music; to create something that doesn’t sound like the song that they came from. If they use them to create a remix, they should credit him accordingly.
Kaskade also talked about a fan interaction he had with a man named Ted Keyes, who used the stems in a creation of his own and sent it to Kaskade over Twitter. Kaskade was able to clean the track up, doing what he calls “flushing it out,” and said that he plans to use the mix in future shows – it’s even available to listen to on YouTube right now. He closed his post by saying “Free the music. Yup, the cash will follow but more importantly: the creativity will flow.” By releasing the stems to his song for free, Kaskade has insured a future payoff: an opportunity for his fans to create something entirely new.
